  • It was my destiny to be born in a Kashmiri pandit family in a geography, which had acquired over a long time, an epithet of ‘Heaven on earth’.
  • As I grew up, the borrowed wisdom from the decision makers in the family dictated ‘making a living’ as the focal point of life.
  • The idea of ‘making a life’ thus emerged only after one was through with the ‘making a living’.
  • Kashmiri speaking Batta from Karan Nagar, Srinagar. Born on 11 th , Sept. 1949. Qualified Electrical Engineer. Graduated from BIT Mesra, Ranchi with 1965-1970 batch. Sports enthusiast – Represented Ranchi University in Athletics and Volleyball. Athletic Champion in Engineering college for three consecutive years.
  • Worked for Continental Construction (Vishakhapatnam) for 2 years as a Hydrographic Surveyor. Worked in J&K
  • PDD as JEE, for 9Years.Left Srinagar, J&K in 1982 for better career prospects.
  • Worked for MNC’s (English Electric, ASEA, ABB, GEC ALSTHOM, ALSTOM, INTEGRA) for 31 Years at various places in India (Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi, Baroda)
  • Retired in positions of ABB as VP in 2009 & as MD of Integra Hindustan- listed Swiss company, in 2011.
It doesn't matter. We are where we are, however we got there. What matters is where we go next.

  • I hung my boots in 2011and since then I got engaged in reading, learning and writing about my beloved homeland Kashmir- its History, Kashmiri Pandit Community and our Cultural heritage. My focus is to pick up all perspectives and narratives to get a balanced view of the issues in hand. Engaged with the community through Kashmir Sabha Baroda. Editor of  Kong posh, the community magazine Kashmir Sabha Baroda since 2016. Author of many articles appearing in community magazines- Pragaash, NAAD.
  • On the digital front, I can be found on Facebook, Telegram, YouTube, Twitter, WhatsAPP.
It’s not about keeping up the population, it’s about passing on who we are and what we have learned, so things keep going. So, we don’t just end.

  • My first book is in works and is on Kashmiri Poets in the period between 14 th century and 21 st century. My co-author -Upasna Kakroo is from Michigan US. A brilliant soul sharing the same objectives of facilitating the propagation and promotion of our literary heritage. The book is expected to be published in early 2023.
  • Written reflections are expected to give clarity to the purpose of writing for generations which will follow us. Many more book projects may follow with the basic theme of nurturing the continuum of our cultural heritage.
